A Día de los Muertos Wedding: Honoring Heritage, Love, and Connection
Caylan and David’s Día de los Muertos wedding at South Mountain was filled with personal traditions, heritage and everything had an intention. They first met during a yoga class where David was teaching. Their connection sparked through friendship and a shared love for mindfulness. Over time, this connection deepened into something truly special, eventually leading them to a wedding that celebrated both their love and their rich cultural heritage. Their wedding day was a beautiful combination of the spirit, colors and fun of Día de los Muertos with personal tradition. Their wedding day was a beautiful tribute to family, love, and community.
Honoring Loved Ones Through Tradition
Caylan and David’s Día de los Muertos wedding at South Mountain incorporated Día de los Muertos traditions and embraced the beauty of remembrance. The bride’s mother, known for her breathtaking ofrendas (the traditional altars) created a large one as a centerpiece to their reception. Each guest participated by bringing items to add to honor family members and friends no longer present. Their ceremony altar was another large centerpiece of their wedding. Adorned with significant crystals, stones, sage, and a Buddha statue that had been a peaceful presence in their home. This Buddha, a symbol of calm and love that overlooks their house, brought a sense of comfort and unity to the day.
Thoughtfully Curated Details
Caylan and David’s wedding had so many personal touches to honor their journey together and their heritage. Caylan wore a custom veil created by an artisan in Chiapas, Mexico, representing her roots, and paired it with her grandmother’s charm bracelet, each charm filled with memories of family. Her beautiful BHLDN dress with floral texture was the perfect choice. The couple extended their thoughtfulness and intentionality to gifts for their bridal party. David’s groomsmen wore bolo ties adorned with handpicked crystals. Caylan gifted her bridesmaids alebrije spirit animals while getting ready the morning of the wedding. Each alebrije spirit animal chosen to fit each person specifically, symbolizing a unique bond.
Community-Rooted Celebrations
Reflecting the values of love and community, every element of the day was thoughtfully sourced. Close friends grew the flowers, and the vegan catering represented the couple’s mindful lifestyle. They also chose vegan cakes from a local coffee shop and bakery called Dark Hall. A place they often went while dating. The family home, a place of warmth and familiarity, served as the perfect venue. From the invitations to the signage, Caylan added her personal touch by creating these details herself.
